Weekly update

This week is College Go Week! Students will be participating in college and career related activities during their Homeroom and lunch periods. There will also be themes for each day this week where students can dress up. Monday is "dress to impress" and students can wear what they would wear to their future job or interview. Tuesday's theme is "follow your Dreams" and students are allowed to wear pajamas. Wednesday's theme is "hats off to college" and students can wear a hat to school. Thursday's theme is "your future looks bright" and students can wear neon clothing. Lastly, students can wear their favorite college spirit wear on Friday. This week is a great week to fill out college applications as many colleges waive their application fees during this time.

This week is also the start of Assignment Recovery.  Moving forward, students who are failing a course and receive a zero on an assignment in that course will have to stay after school on an assigned day during the following week. Students and their guardians will be notified of which day they will need to attend. Failure to attend Assignment Recovery may result in disciplinary action. Please contact the office if you have any questions on this matter.

Next week is Homecoming and there will be daily themes throughout that week as well. More information on these spirit days will be given at a later time. There will be a pep rally in the gym for students and staff during 6th and 7th periods on September the 29th. The Homecoming parade, bon fire, and kickball game will be on Thursday September the 28th. This is a great opportunity to show your support for the football team, our school, and the community of Whiting. The Homecoming Dance is scheduled for that Saturday the 30th. Tickets for the dance will be sold in the office starting this Thursday.

Our Oiler of the Week last week was Lilianna Bell. Teachers vote for Oilers of the Week by choosing which of their students exemplified each of Whiting High School's five core values (Self-Discipline, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, GRIT, and Growth Mindset).

Have a great week!
