Congratulations to Ben Player, Camila Ortiz Torres, and Diego DelReal for being our Oilers of the Week for 10/16/2023 - 10/20/2023. They received the most votes from teachers last week. Teachers vote for Oilers of the Week by choosing which of their students exemplified each of Whiting High School's five core values (Self-Discipline, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, GRIT, and Growth Mindset). Below are what their teachers said about them.
Ben Player is always striving for his best. He asks questions, he does all his work, he is friendly and helpful to other students.
Camila is an example of quality self-discipline. She is rarely ever off task; it does not matter what is happening around her. She has yet to have a missing assignment or even turn an assignment in late. She is constantly on top of her work and truly defines what it means to be a responsible student. She never has behavior issues, nor is she late to my class. Camila is a leader to her group. A lot of students' success comes from Camila's ability to lead her group and keep them on track. Her ability to remain on track for herself and for the people around her is unparalleled. Camila has emerged as this leader for her group of four. She has an ability to take what she learns one day and grow from it based off of the assignments that she submits. I am proud of the student Camila has become. She is a student that makes the teaching profession a rewarding experience.
Diego shows responsibility and self-discipline by being prepared for class every day. He was one of a handful of students who helped his class during Homecoming week by participating in the decorating activities. He shows self-advocacy by establishing a good repour with his teachers and in doing so, can communicate effectively with them regarding his grades and assignments. He shows GRIT by understanding the school-wide expectations and following them without having to be reminded of them by his teachers. He shows a growth mindset by challenging himself with this class load (Honors and AP classes) and school work.
