Congratulations to Leilani Muniz for being our Oiler of the Week for last week. Teachers vote for Oilers of the Week by choosing which of their students exemplified each of Whiting High School's five core values (Self-Discipline, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, GRIT, and Growth Mindset). Below is what teachers had to say about Leilani.
Growth Mindset: Leilani grows academically here at Whiting high school. While maintaining a 100% in my class, she is always involved in some sort of extra curricular activity which demonstrates a massive growth in responsibility.
Grit: Leilani is always working on what she needs done. She likes to call it her "zone" where she tunes out everything and everyone in order to complete her tasks.
Responsibility: Maintaining a 100% in a class is a very difficult thing to do especially nearing the end of a semester. This involves no missing assignments AND getting a perfect on every test we took. This requires a lot of responsibility to be on top of assignments and studying.
Self-Discipline: Leilani is involved here at Whiting. The discipline she has to succeed in both academics and extra curriculars requires a self-disciplinary trait that not many people have. I am very proud of everything she has been able to accomplish.
Self-advocacy: Leilani is a student of MANY words... A lot of which is her hyping herself up to accomplish anything that steps in her way. Whether it be a lazy partner for a group activity, or just mumbling to herself "I can do this" (she does this a lot), she hardly backs down from a challenge in my classroom.
Leilani is a fantastic student, and a strong candidate to receive this reward each and every week. She always makes people smile in the classroom with her humor and personality. She leads others to success, and I am very proud of the student she has become throughout the semester. I am looking forward to another semester with her!
