Weekly Update

During Homeroom this week, students will be having grade checks and working in Khan Academy. There will no Homeroom tomorrow March 5th, due to our school having a full-length practice SAT exam for juniors. The adjusted schedule is attached to the email sent to parents today and will be the same schedule on March 12th for the actual exam. Students who attend the ACC in the morning will need to be here at Whiting High School for both mornings on March 5th and March 12th. As a reminder, the SAT is an important exam that colleges use to decide if students will be enrolled into their schools. Additionally, students who do well on the SAT may be eligible for various scholarship opportunities.

Assignment Recovery continues this week for students who are failing a course and miss an assignment in that course. Monday is with Mr. Belyayev for Social Studies. Tuesday is with Ms. Lopez for English. Thursday is with Ms. DeWald for electives. Friday is with Ms. Reese for Math. Although Assignment Recovery is for students who are failing, all students who would like extra help in a content area are welcome to attend.

Congratulations to Arthur Frazier, who won Oiler of the Week last week. Teachers nominate Oilers of the Week by choosing students who exemplify our five core values (Self-Discipline, Self-Advocacy, Responsibility, Grit, and Growth Mindset).

Softball try outs are this week from 3 to 5:30 in the Memorial Gym (weather pending). Baseball and Tennis try outs will start next week on the 11th. Please contact Coach Morando, Coach Hunt, or Coach Young for more information.

Our Senior Trip to Six Flags will be on May 11th or May 18th this year from 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM. The senior class sponsor, Mrs. Brizuela, will inform students and parents of the exact date and times via the class cohort Google Classroom and the school's website. Any parent who has not paid yet for the senior trip will need to reach out to Mrs. Brizuela by 2:00 PM today 3/4/2024.

Thank you for your continued support of our school and our community.

Have a great Oiler day!
