Congratulations to Alyssa Bolzan for being our Oiler of the Week from 2/19/2024 to 2/23/2024. Teachers vote for Oilers of the Week by choosing which of their students exemplified each of Whiting High School's five core values (Self-Discipline, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, GRIT, and Growth Mindset). Below is what teachers had to say about Alyssa.
Responsibility: Alyssa will do whatever it takes to improve her grade in my class. If she learns that she has a missing assignment, she drops what she is doing to get that done so she does not fall behind. She spent a day rewriting all her notes for a test.
Self-discipline: Failing is not an option for Alyssa. Should she fail a test or miss an assignment, she does whatever she can in order to correct her mistakes. She is determined to get better every day. She does all this as a student athlete, maintaining her grades with her student basketball career.
Self-advocacy: Alyssa NEVER hesitates to speak her mind. Sometimes so very interesting things come out of it, but none the less she will share her opinion on everything. If something is not the way it should be, whether in class or in her life, she will speak it. She stands up for herself with her voice.
Grit: Alyssa deserves the Most Improved award if such a reward existed. She has been determined this semester to maintain an A average in my class and has been putting in the work to achieve it. Her test scores are great and she goes above the call of duty on normal assignments/activities.
Growth Mindset: As stated earlier, Alyssa deserves the Most Improved award. She has grown exponentially in the time I have known her; she constantly wants to get better. Whether at academics, basketball, or simply just being the goofy person she is, she grows from everything good or bad decision she makes.
I am very proud of the student Alyssa has become. She has proven to me that she is capable of anything she can put her mind to. Distractions happen, life gets in the way, but Alyssa's goals never falter. Her goal is to succeed and let no one down, and I can proudly say that she is succeeding. I'm so proud of you Alyssa!
