Congratulations to Richard Sarabia for being our Oiler of the Week last week. Teachers vote for Oilers of the Week by choosing which of their students exemplified each of Whiting High School's five core values (Self-Discipline, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, GRIT, and Growth Mindset). Below is what teachers had to say about Richard
Richard is the embodiment of our Oiler tenets of responsibility, self-discipline, self-advocacy, grit, and growth. Richard is easily one the most studious students I have. He is always passionate about being at school and about his education. He is responsible in many ways, one example of which is always having his assignments turned in on time. He exemplifies self-discipline, he understands right from wrong and thinks logically. He is kind not only to his peers, but especially to his teachers and all staff at Whiting High School. He demonstrates self-advocacy through his ability to do so well in my classes and look for opportunities to succeed. Moreover, he is an all-star when it comes to class engagement. He always has his hand up and wants to participate, and when he is not answering a question, he is asking a question. This embodies Richard's desire to grow. He is always trying to absorb new information and knowledge into his brain, like a sponge. He genuinely wants to get better and not remain complacent. Lastly, Richard demonstrates GRIT very well. He never complains and instead is always eager. He is welcoming of new tasks/lessons in class and is even welcoming of homework assignments. I appreciate Richard for not just being the fantastic student he is, but for also being a fantastic person.
