Congratulations to Ava Gormley for being our Oiler of the Week last week. Teachers vote for Oilers of the Week by choosing which of their students exemplified each of Whiting High School's five core values (Self-Discipline, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, GRIT, and Growth Mindset). Below is what teachers had to say about Ava.
Throughout the school year, Ava has been one of, if not the most respectful students to other teachers and I at Whiting High School. She is very mature and socially and emotionally aware. These attributes set her far apart from many of her peers who are still working on these personal skills. She is always quick to ask her teachers how they are doing and quick to commit acts of kindness for us. Not only that, she exemplifies this with her peers as well. For instance, on her own accord, she buys a friend of hers an energy drink every morning expecting nothing in return. Her benevolent nature and heart prove to be rare, especially for a High Schooler. Moving on, she respects herself as well. She is determined to perform well and excel. Every day, she is a keen observer and participant in class. She is very prudent, often asking questions about the importance of the material we are learning and demonstrating a genuine desire to grow personally. Finally, she is always punctual with her class assignments. Ava is a true Oiler of the Week and role model for all of her peers!
