Weekly Update

Assignment Recovery is starting back up this week for students who are failing a course and miss an assignment in that course. Social Studies is on Monday with Mr. Belyayev. English is on Tuesday with Mr. Popiela. Electives are on Thursday with Ms. DeWald. Math is on Friday with Mrs. Reese. Students who are assigned Assignment Recovery but do not attend will receive a detention. During Homeroom this week, students will be having grade checks with their teachers, completing an Earth Day EdPuzzle, and working on their individual growth plans through Khan Academy.

There are a number of upcoming events at Whiting High School. ASVAB testing will take place on Tuesday April 23rd for students interested in joining the military and need to fulfill the post-secondary readiness box for graduation. The Spanish Club Soccer Tournament is this Saturday April 27th at the football field. Be sure to come out and support our Spanish Club! Our National Honor Society Induction Ceremony is this Sunday April 28th at 12:30. Prom is set for the following weekend on May 4th. Students will need to buy their tickets and have their guest forms approved by today April 22nd. Tickets are 60 dollars each. Lastly, the Senior Trip to Six Flags will be on May 18th and graduation is set for June 2nd. Parents and guardians of students who may be deficient on credits should be getting a Summer School notification this week. It is important to take advantage of Summer School in order to be on pace to graduate on time. Additionally, students can take advantage of the tutoring resources offered through our school. Please see the attached document in the email sent today for more information on tutoring resources. In addition to these resources, we are also offering additional support for students by allowing them to utilize our library in order to get caught up with missing assignments, online tutoring, and/or extra time to work on any Edgenuity courses. This is after school from 3 to 4 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Oilers of the week this week are Genaro Herrejon, Leilani Muniz, and Bryannah Hernandez. Teachers vote on Oilers of the Week by choosing the students who exemplify our five core values: Self-discipline, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, Grit, and Growth Mindset. Students wanted to shout out Mrs. Monroe, Mr. Popiela, Mr. Priesol, and Mr. Belyayev last week. See our school's website to see what students had to say about them and to find out how you can shout out a staff member.

Thank you for your continued support of our school and community.
