Weekly Update

During Homeroom this week, students will be working on their individual growth plans in Khan Academy and learning about primary elections. There is a Financial Literacy Night for seniors and their parents this Wednesday May 1st from 3 to 4 PM in the high school library. Our partners, INvesteEd will be sharing key steps in finalizing your college funding plan. They will share tips on comparing financial aid offers, options to fill any gap in college costs, and answer any other questions you may have. Seniors may wear jeans and a shirt representing their future plans on National College Decision Day, which is this Wednesday May 1st. Prom is set to take place this Saturday May 4th, which should be an exciting and fun time for our students. We are hoping that everyone has a safe and enjoyable time. On Monday May 8th, School City of Whiting will be hosting a Community Resource Fair in our cafeteria from 5 to 6 PM. Please see the attached flyer in the email sent today for more information.

There are multiple upcoming exams at Whiting High School within the next few weeks. AP Testing starts on May 6th and will continue until May 22nd. It is important that AP students utilize the study sessions offered by their teachers. The Biology ILearn will take place during Biology classes on May 13th and 14th. NWEA will take place during students' English classes on May 13th and 14th.

Assignment Recovery continues this week for students failing a course and miss an assignment in that course. Monday is with Mr. Belyayev for social studies. Tuesday is with Ms. Lopez for English. Thursday is with Mr. Long for Science. Friday is with Mrs. Reese for Math. Although Assignment Recovery is assigned, other students can join if they would like extra help in that subject area.

Congratulations to Victoria Pelayo, who won Oiler of the Week last week. Students win Oiler of the Week by exemplifying our 5 core values (Self-discipline, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, Grit, and Growth Mindset).

Thank you for your continued support of our school and community.

Have a great Oiler day!
