We are in the first week of the 2nd semester and it is important that our students get off to a good start. Please reiterate to your child that it is paramount that they are organized and turn in their daily assignments, as well as ask teachers for assistance when needed. We also have additional tutoring resources for them if needed, which are in the document attached to the email sent today.
During Homeroom this week, students will be receiving their new schedules, reviewing expectations, and working on their individual growth plans through Khan Academy or Edmentum. As a reminder, these individual growth plans help students in the areas of math and English, as well as increase their ability to pass the SAT.
Upcoming events include the Edmentum testing, the ACC open house, and the SAT test for juniors. Edmentum testing will be given the week of January 20th. This includes a diagnostic test that measures how well our students are improving in the areas of English and math. This test is given to all students during the fall, winter, and spring. Individual growth plans are also created for students to work towards mastery. The ACC Open House is coming up on January 22nd from 4 to 7 PM. This is for any sophomore and Junior who is interested in attending the ACC next school year. The SAT will be given to all juniors on March 18th this year. Other grades will have a regular school day.
Congratulations to Neveah Kender, Briseida Lopez, and Cody Fink who were our Oilers of the Week last week. Teachers nominate students for Oilers of the Week by choosing those who exemplify our five core values (Self-discipline, Responsibility, Self-advocacy, Grit, and Growth Mindset).
Our construction project on the roof of the auditorium and the 3rd floor of the middle school is in full swing. This may effect the location of some of your child's classes. Our math hallway is moving from the 3rd floor to temporary classrooms on the 1st floor and our art room is currently being housed in Nathan Hale. Our students have adjusted well to these changes and without any issues.
Thank you for your continued support of our school and community.
Have a great Oiler day!
