The School City of Whiting PTO will be sponsoring a Family Fun Game Night on Thursday, November 18th from 5:30-7:00 pm. PreK-12 Students and families can sign up for either an Ultimate Uno competition with prizes for the winners or just enjoy playing a variety of fun family style board games. Everyone who attends will receive a hot dog, chips, drink, and treat. This event is free for PTO members. If you are not already a member, you can sign up for only $5.00 and receive free entry into Family Game Night, our Winter Family Healthy Fair, and our Spring Fling Fun Fair and Dance. Wednesday, Oct. 27th will be "Jean Day". This is a fundraiser for our local YMCA. For $1, each student may wear school appropriate jeans.
Report cards will be distributed to students on Wednesday, Oct. 20th. Please be looking for your student's report card when they arrive home from school on Wednesday. Also, Thursday is an elearning day for all Whiting students. Teachers will have assignments posted by 8am. Thursday the 21st is also parent teacher conferences. We will be offering both virtual and in-person sessions. If you are interested in scheduling a time to talk with a teacher, please visit the teachers website and click on the sign up genius link to select a time and format. We will also have in-person open times from 3:30 - 5:30 in the high school gym. Finally, just a reminder that we will have Fall Break on Friday the 22nd and Monday the 25th.
Attention Seniors :
On Wednesday, October 13th, all seniors will have the opportunity to experience Whiting High School’s College and Career Opportunities Day. Seniors will be allowed to spend the day experiencing college and career activities by attending the ACC, visiting a college, job shadowing, or completing college and/or career research. All activities will be completed off campus; however, please make sure that you spend at least 4 – 6 hours participating in the event.
Seniors who attend the ACC will attend their CTE course as normal and this will count as their participation in the day. If a student decides not to participate in the College and Career Opportunities Day activities, they must attend school or they will be considered truant for the day as stated in the Whiting High School Handbook.
We believe that this opportunity supports the Mission of Whiting High School which is to foster an environment whereby students, faculty, parents, and the community interact to provide educational opportunities, empowering students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners.
Seniors received a copy of a form that must be signed and returned to the Counseling Office by Friday, October 8th.

Good evening. This is Jim Polite, principal of Whiting High School. This message is for all Whiting Students that attend a program at the Hammond Area Career Center. Please be advised that all Hammond Area Career Center students will be participating in an e-learning day tomorrow, August 30th. Whiting High School students are still expected to attend their courses at Whiting during their normal scheduled time. The AM Hammond Area Career Center Students need to report to Whiting in time for their normally scheduled afternoon classes. The Whiting students that normally attend the PM session will be dismissed from Whiting following their 4th period class.
Whiting High School has partnered with INvestEd to host a College Prep/Early Awareness Night on Thursday, August 26th at 6pm. The presentation will give students & families tools to help with finding the right major/career, selecting the right college, maximizing FREE money like scholarships & grants, understanding college costs with net price calculators and the impacts of social media on college admission & scholarship decisions. Enter at the auditorium doors (Door 18) on New York Ave. All are welcome to attend!
Seniors- the Lily Endowment Scholarship application is open until September 15th. There is a virtual help session taking place today, Tuesday, August 24th to answer any questions you may have about the process. The event information has been posted in the Class of 2022 Google Classroom or you can see Ms. Daniels is you have any questions.
Attention Seniors: Credit recovery for seniors only will start next
Monday, August 23rd. The guidance department will be speaking individually to these seniors that need to stay starting on the 23rd.
Students in grades 11 and 10 that need credit recovery will be starting at a later date to be announced.
Attention WHS Students: We look forward to seeing all of you on Thursday! Please use the following doors to enter on Thursday at 7:35am: Grades 12 and 11- Door 7, Grade 10 - Door 22 and Grade 9- Door 23. All students will receive an updated schedule upon entering the building. Students will NOT report to homeroom. Students will report directly to their 1st hour class after receiving their schedule.
Attention incoming 9th/10th Grade Students: WHS will be open on Wednesday, August 4th, from 9am-1pm for you to find your classes and lockers. NHS members will be present to assist.
Attention all WHS Students: Pierogi Fest will be held on Friday, July 23, Saturday, July 24, and Sunday, July 25. The Chamber of Commerce is looking for high school students to volunteer. Not only will you be helping your community, but also adding valuable volunteer activities for scholarship and college applications.
To volunteer, please stop in the Chamber office or call 659-0292. Your community thanks you!
Graduation tickets for senior families will be available June 9-11 from 8-2 in the high school office. Tickets must be picked up and signed for. if you are in need of handicap parking for graduation day please reach out to the office by June 4 so that we can include this with your tickets. In addition make sure you verify with the high school office that your student will be taking part in the day's events.

Any student that is working as an in-person student and has borrowed a SCW Chromebook to use will need to return it to the high school office on May 10, 2021. Students should keep the device in their locker until they are called down to the office to turn it in.
Seniors that were unable to pick up their shirt/hoodie or Jostens order can call the high school office and schedule a time to come in and get those items. Items will be available from 2:50-3:30. A call must be made ahead of time so that we can gather all of the needed items.
Any student that ordered a senior sweatshirt from Mr. Liles or ordered items including your cap and gown from Jostens will be able to pick up their items on Wednesday, April 21 from 2:00-3:30 pm by the high school concession stand/door seven (7) on Oliver Street. In order to pick up items from Jostens, you must be paid in full. You can do this by visiting their web site at www.jostens.com.
Memory Makers will be having a make up day for seniors only. This will take place on May 10th from 4pm-5pm at their studio on 119th Street. Students must call and schedule an appointment. You can call 219-659-2042.
